I'm Not Her Mom

The best bloggers have good stories. This is my attempt at an entertaining story.

Earlier this week I took Kate (11) to her sewing class. Upon picking her up, I stayed for a while and watched her finish up a project. Her instructor noticed how cautiously Kate was sewing and remarked to her "is your mom making you nervous?" We both turned to each other and grinned/chuckled. Pretty sure Kate is taller than I am. I would have had to been 11 to have her...did I look old and haggard and momish??

I turned to the very nice lady and said: "I'm actually not her mom, I'm just her nanny." The lady was quite surprised. Funny lady.

Kate and I found the exchange rather humourous and have been joking about it the whole week. But the part that I found funniest was that when I dropped her off at horseback riding the other day, she jokingly called out: "Bye mom!"

I laughed, but the little girls who were standing nearby (and whom I knew) turned to me and said: "What horse does your daughter ride?" Both Kate and I started to laugh hysterically. I composed myself and turned to the little girl and replied that I actually wasn't Kate's mom. The girl replied back: "OH! Okay, you didn't really look like a mom anyways."

So now I'm confused. Lol. Kate and I will always cherish this memory I'm sure.

The World of Blogs

so, I will admit to this...however geeky it is...but I love blogs. I love reading what other people write, seeing what kind of lives other people live, seeing the creativity of each blog, etc. Its like a library of books and stories.

This is a new found love.

Some blogs are amusing, some whimsical, some memorable...but every single one is like a window into another person's world.

Today is a normal day. Somewhat. Besides watching a lab tech try to match up the EXACT same shade of my pearly whites to a porceline. I have faith that they can get it right the second time around...besides, its hard to copy something so perfect- lol.

Tomorrow...tomorrow I will smile a very expensive smile.

Atrophy

Today, yet again, http://www.sarahmarkley.com/ inspires me. How often do I let some relationships atrophy. Sure, I'm not wonder woman, and as much as I'd like to be super close to all of my friends, it's not reaslitic. Each of us can only invest in a certain quantity of people to a certain quality.

As Sarah says:

"Atrophy: the degeneration of something from disuse....

Anything atrophies if we stop using it. Including relationships. Especially relationships.
Marriages and friendships are either getting better or getting worse. There is no hover posture for relationships.

We are either taking steps to repair, restore and increase closeness and intimacy, or we are not. And when we do not, it begins to atrophy. The relationship loses effectiveness and impact."

There is no hover position. I like that. There is no fence sitting. In faith. In relationships. In love. No fence sitting. Do everything you do with a purpose and a passion. Mean what you say and do what you do. Live life to the full.

One of my resolutions is to take more pictures. I want to remember these days. I want to cherish every day that I live, with all the wonderful people I am blessed to live with. I so easily forget, if I can take more pictures, it will help me to remember.

Today, I am cherishing life. Oh how bittersweet it is. God is good.

Oh Anne.

There is just something about Anne of Green Gables that just fascinates me.

I think its her irresistable charm, wit, temper, red hair and utter romanticism. I'm not much of a romantic myself, but I certainly do appreciate her. It doesn't help that she is entirely human, smashes chalkboards on the annoying boy's head, and in the end gets to marry the cute boy. Oh to be Anne. I could marry Gilbert Blythe.

I'd have to say I'm a pretty lucky girl when I think of how much I love having my own Diana Barry, kindred spirit. Her and I even do our share of justice to the images associated with Anne and Diana...vivacious red head with green eyes, and utterly sweet curly dark hair and eyed beauty. Also, thankfully, I've had more than my fair share of kindred spirits and Diana Barry's to befriend in addition to my original. One can never have too many Diana Barry's...unless of course they aren't really Diana Barrys.

To close, today I am thankful for the example that is Anne (Lucy Maud Montgomery for creating and writing her stories, and Sullican Entertainment for making the stories come alive into movies) and for all the Diana Barrys in my life, blonde or brunette.

Enjoy the sun!!!

Great Desires

Its been two weeks since I last posted. Time has flown by. I've done so much, been so many places, lived.

During this time I have fallen head over heels in love with the colour blue. I don't know what it is about it...but the tealy shades of blue just entice me. I think it is a combination of vigor, life, calm, peace, and tranquility that blue affords. (Like the ocean....I love the ocean too!) At one moment, a shade of blue can be so ALIVE, and then you add a touch of grey and it is serenity itself. While some of my friends have compared me to more vibrant colours like green and orange, I choose to be blue.

The randomness continues...

Today I was reading my favorite blog: www.sarahmarkley.com and I was struck by this line from today's post: (I LOVE how Sarah always makes me think about life)

"God was late. By a day.
But it was in His perfect timing. His “lateness” created a need in me to trust him more. He forced me to watch for Him with greater attentiveness and to be careful not to miss Him."

So many times in my life God has asked me to wait. In fact, I'm still waiting. But this has allowed me ample opportunity to trust Him and watch for His loving care. God knows I need this...He knows very intimately that I am a creature of business.

But I agree with Sarah. God is late. I am too eager. Must Learn Patience. Soon.

Another random thought I've been chewing on is this quote from my favorite spiritual book of all time (besides the Bible) "I Believe in Love" by Fr. Jean C. J. D'Elbee:

"Nothing great ever comes about without great desires."

I desire many things. Some things I desire more than others. It is precisely because of these desires that I live, that I move, that I have my being. They direct my path.

I hope you have great desires.
